Yasser Abdelrahman is a Biomechanical Analyst and Accident Reconstructionist with Aperture. He leverages his profound understanding of engineering principles and the laws of physics to analyze accidents and dissect the biomechanical mechanisms at play. Yasser has completed certifications for crash data retrieval and is working towards future studies such as human factors, photogrammetry, and stimulatory reconstruction as he enhances and expands his existing foundations.   

In 2023 Yasser earned his Master of Science in Bioengineering from the University of California, San Diego. His research focused on studying hindlimb biomechanics and developing a three-dimensional musculoskeletal model to study kinematics and kinetics at the muscle and joint level. Additionally, Yasser obtained his Bachelor of science in bioengineering from the University of California, San Diego in 2021.

Work Experience

Forensic Expert – Biomechanics and Accident Reconstruction, Aperture LLC Carlsbad, (Sept 2023 to present)

Specialization in Accident Reconstruction and Forensic Biomechanics, integrating vehicular dynamics analyses with occupant kinematics and kinetics to quantify impact severity and evaluate potential injury mechanisms. Through the application of:

• Accident Reconstruction and Biomechanics during/for on-site investigations

• Analysis of kinematics and kinetics of the human body to delineate causal relationships between insult and injury

• Conduct field inspections of the accident locations and vehicles, using UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) terrestrial scanners, and digital photographs to generate 3D data for further analysis

• Physics-based simulation software that reconstructs real world accidents; Human Vehicle Environment (HVE) and PC-Crash

• Advanced Photogrammetric analysis for collision reconstruction to identify on-scene evidence, vehicle crush, and speed of vehicles

• Camera matching and lens correction of surveillance videos, dashcam footage and photographs to obtain accurate 3D measurements

Human Performance Alliance, Cardiac Mechanics Research Group, July 2021 – August 2023, Graduate Researcher

  • Worked in the cardiac mechanics research group under the Wu Tsai Human performance project.
  • Analyzed musculoskeletal biomechanics and generated computational models to answer questions which can’t be studied in-vivo.
  • Skills ranged from collecting experimental data, muscle architecture, mechanical design of performance rigs, computational 3D modeling in OpenSim, MATLAB coding, and tissue/anatomy segmentation using Mimics.
